This yarn is from India, handspun by the unique method of softening with soap, then pulling out the fibre directly into a yarn. This handspinning produces a semi-continuous, extremely strong yarn. The overtwist makes it very strong. Since it is handspun, the yarn is not perfectly regular. Knitters who have used it praise its distinctive look and feel.

Tussah is wildcrafted, thus is naturally both organic silk and "Peace Silk." Tussah (wild) silk worms live naturally in tropical or semi-tropical forests. Their silk is gathered after the moth emerges. The caterpillars eat all kinds of different trees, all rich in tannin, so the silk is beige to brownish-toned. There are many varieties and shades of wild silk. Tussah is generally stronger and more resilient than cultivated.
