Satin is a weave historically designed to show off the lovely sheen of silk. Invented in ancient China, where silk was first cultivated and reeled into the long smooth filament that is the quintessential luxury of all the natural fibres.
This fabric is a flowy charmeuse, that is, a lustrous satin on one side and matte crepe on the other.
Rich and velvety, the drapes of the satin enhance the colour as they shine with highlights, while the folds call to one with shadowed depths.
100% naturally dyed with Fusticwood and Lac . The colour has an under tone of gold beneath the vibrant rose, which gives it extra depth and fire.
This colour is almost identical to the former "By the bolt" colour Ruby. Reformulating to this Lac based red means the colour is now even more fast to light and to (careful) washing.
Now being hand Artisan dyed on 16 mm mid weight Charmeuse Satin, produced and woven in India. (*When the India satin is not available the substituted fabric is the same weight Satin Crepe.) Naturally hand dyed by Cheryl Kolander at the Aurora Silk Natural Dye Studio in Portland, Oregon.
