Indigo Blue Ahimsa Peace Silk

For information about the Ahimsa Peace Silk fabric, click here.

Hand dyed in Aurora Silk’s Natural Fermentation Indigo Vat. The colour is built up in four or five long "dips," which makes for a very even, very dark blue. The Natural Indigo we are now using is a exceptional quality 59% Indigotin, hand processed, cosmetic grade, organically grown indigo from a rural resurgence project in El Salvador.

Our dark Indigo is a very fast colour, both to light and washing. True Indigo may “rub” slightly, but as we keep our vats very well maintained, rubbing is at a minimum.  Note that Indigo is a natural skin healer and many traditional cultures wear indigo to promote skin health.

True Indigo, naturally fermented imparts a characteristic scent to the fabric.  This slight scent is a natural insect repellant.  Learn to recognize it and you will never be fooled by synthetic substitutes!

Five-yard dye lots, so orders for more than five yards will be done in two or more dye lots.
