A naturally dyed in-stock colour, this is the famous intense red of antique quilts and coverlets, dyed with Indian "Mungeet" madder in a long and complex process spanning many days. This red is dyed in the traditional “Turkey Red” process and has all the fastness and brilliance of the best antique quilt reds. Dyed for us with Mungeet, a locally wildcrafted red root, by a Skal certified 100% Natural Dyeworks that we partner with in India. Cheryl has personally visited the dyeworks twice and affirms that it is clean, healthy, open air, with well compensated, adult workers.  It is also 100% recycle, with waste water and spent dyestuffs used to mulch and water an adjacent garden where the workers can grow vegetables for their families.

Fabric Information

  • Fibre content: 100% organic cotton
  • Source: India
  • Dye: Mungeet, a locally wildcrafted red root.  With alum and natural phosphates and silicates derived from sacred cow dung (traditional method all the way).
  • TYRIA fastness rating:  wash fast -- excellent;  light fast --excellent; eco rating -- excellent; therapeutic rating --excellent.
  • Width: 55"
  • Weight per linear yard: 10 oz
  • Commonly used for: Shirts, pants, quilting
  • Recommended care: Machine wash: gentle cycle, warm water, mild soap. Tumble dry on low heat. For smoothest finish, iron from barely damp state on "wrong" side of fabric.
