Ahimsa Noil Washed and Raw

Called raw silk in the fashion trade, the true designation of this fabric is noil silk. It is a very versatile "peace" silk, spun thick and nubbly like cotton, with a matte surface and drapey hand.

This fabric crinkles into a lovely texture with water washing and tumble drying.

Fabric Information

  • Fibre content: 100% Peace silk
  • Source: Rural India, small family farms
  • Width: 52"
  • Weight per linear yard: 5.4 oz
  • Commonly used for: A very durable fabric that I use for dresses, men's shirts, lightweight pants, pillows and sheets, and children's clothes. It is especially desirable for "sport" clothes and informal wear, because, while it has all the health promoting properties of silk, it does not look "silky."
  • Weft (width) shrinkage: 9%
  • Warp (length) shrinkage: 9%
  • Recommended care: Machine wash: gentle cycle, warm water, mild soap.  Tumble dry on low heat.  For smoothest finish, iron from barely damp state on "wrong" side of fabric.

We at Aurora Silk are pleased to be the exclusive importer-distributor for this finest-quality cruelty-free Mulberry silk fabric.

Cheryl Kolander visited the production site in India in November 2006, and we are happy to report that all aspects of the operation are clean, healthy and honorable - absolutely no child labour or slavery; cocoons are raised in small family farms without the use of pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, genetic engineering or any other practice of disrepute. The Ahimsa™ label is patented to our partner-producer in India.
