What is "Peace" silk? It is silk from cocoons where the caterpillar is allowed to maturally complete its life cycle, to transform into a winged silk moth, to emerge from the cocoons, find a mate, lay eggs for the next generation, and die happy.
Cheryl Kolander, who IS Aurora Silk, has been actively promoting the idea of Peace silk since 1985, begining with an article in the magazine "FiberArts", continuing with her own raising of Peace silk cocoons, and now finally able to offer an entire collection of various Peace silks

Eri is a type of wild silk found in India
The cocoons are small and the silk is very light in colour, almost as white as bombyx (cultivated) silk. Eri silkworms eat Castor bean plant leaves and the cocoons are gathered after the moth emerges, which makes this Eri silk "Peace" silk. The moths are allowed to emerge, mate, lay eggs and die happy. Today most Eri silk is cultivated in rural development projects sponsored by the India government. The fibre is processed, spun and the fabric woven in small mills in village India.
