Tussah Wild Silks

Pongee

Organic tussah pongee

Pongee is another name for Tussah wild silk, when it has been woven into fabric. This is a very durable, medium-weight matte fabric. Good for dresses, work clothes, men's shirts, light weight pants and casual wear.

This fabric when dyed has a slight "shimmer" effect, because the warp is a fine reeled white silk, while the weft is a fine, 2-ply spun tussah. Each dyes a slightly different shade, and with some dyes, a slightly different hue. The result is an enhancement of the colour when the fabric lies in folds: seeing it at one angle to the weave gives a slightly different colour than at the opposite angle.

The natural colour is a light honey beige, a blend of the eggshell off white of the natural cultivated warp and the darker honey of the natural tussah. Very evenly spun and woven.
