The gauze base of this exceptionally pretty veil fabric is raw silk (reeled and not degummed) which creates a sturdy and transparent fabric. The stripes are made from a bright and shiny rayon boucle.**

Used as a head scarf, it looks like ancient Egyptian head-dresses. Folded on the bias, the two layers give a design of squares or diamonds. Two layers dyed different colours will give a shimmery blend: for example, pink over blue will look violet where gauze crosses gauze, with bright pink stripes on one side and blue on the other.

** Rayon is a reconstituted cellulose fibre. In the case of most rayon, wood pulp or leaves such as from bamboo or birch are used. That process is not eco friendly. This rayon, by contrast, is made in India from cotton "linters" - short fibres combed out of the fine cotton before spinning. The process used is very mild and the waste created is not toxic. Rayon in any case is not a synthetic fibre, (which are made from the waste of the petroleum industry, and are very toxic both to the environment and to the wearer.) It is, when made like this is, from cotton waste, a 100% recycle fibre. Read more about the value of this fabric when dyed with Indigo, as mosquito netting.

Indigo Dyed "Bridal Veil" for use as a natural insect repellant : the raw silk dyes very dark blue, the rayon stripes glow a light blue.
