These cocoons have a pale creamy tone and are large. All are Peace silk: that is, the moth has freely emerged. They are raised in small family farms in the south of India. Raising techniques are consistent with “Organic” practices. These are the cocoons from which our Ahimsa ™ Mulberry Peace silk thread and fabrics are made from.

TO DEGUM your Peace silk cocoons: BOIL ABOUT 20 MINUTES IN STRONG SOAPY WATER. The stiff gum will dissolve, and the soft silk will remain.
Save the soapy water for a superior shampoo/conditioner.
TO SPIN, PULL COCOON APART INTO A FINER AND FINER THREAD, THEN TWIST.
