Brazilwood: Red

100% water soluble powdered extract of Brazilwood.

Gives strong reds:  “I call them Christmas reds” – Cheryl

The extract is made from the heartwood of the Palo de Brazil tree.  This is a relative of the Logwood tree, is a fast grower and abundant in south Mexico and Central America.  It is not made from the endangered Quebracho three that gave Brazil its name.  Be sure to Alum the fabric first.

For immersion dyework, use at about 25% by weight of fabric.  For fabric, leather or paper painting you may use as “water colour”, that is, just diluted with water, or you may thicken the liquid with any thickener, such as cornstarch, carageenan, gum Arabic or plain white flour boiled in water.
