Eggs. I can provide
silkworm eggs. They are sent in the spring when the mulberry begins to leaf
out. The young leaves are chopped for the young worms. As the worms
grow, the leaves do also; young worms like the new, soft leaves,
while mature worms can eat the full, large leaves.
My strain is American
raised for at least 20 years. It has been unselected during that time.
I am now selecting for the following characteristics: quantity of
silk produced; white vs. striped caterpillars; white vs. golden-gummed
cocoons. (The color is in the gum - the silk processes to
pure white.)
This strain is preferable
for the moth emergence that is an integral part of Peace Silk
production. Highly bred strains from Japan may produce more silk
per caterpillar, but the cocoons are so dense that the moth cannot
escape. For your Peace Silk project, the strain we are developing
is the best. Egg Buying Information
