These new liquid extracts make it easier than ever to dye your own clothes, fiber, and yarn with natural dyes. This is ready-to-paint dye, no boiling or dye-vat is needed.
| 1. | Pre-mordant fiber with alum or tin.
Soak the fiber overnight in a solution of 25% alum or 3% tin. Not needed for Indigo.

| 2. | Prepare Dye(s). Mix the powdered and liquid extracts with water to dissolve and dilute them. Indigo should be used within the hour.
|
| 3. | Paint! Apply the dye with a brush. Mix the dyes to create different colors. Color can be deepened by a second or third coat.

Rose (Cochineal Liquid extract)
Use directly from the bottle for strong rose reds (on tin mordent)
or rich magentas (on alum mordant). Or dilute with water for rose pink and violet
washes. (Addition of iron mordant turns the rose to plums and violets.) Cochineal
dye is an extremely lightfast colour and the best choice for red tones in window
curtains or lampshades. Extract keeps at least six months if returned to the
fridge between uses. Preserved with 1% polysorbate (vitamin C). Food-grade product. |
