Article: About Tussah Wild Silk

"Tussah" is wild silk, usually gathered in the jungle from cocoons of wild silkmoths. Wild silk can be considered "Organic," as almost all wild silk is wildcrafted.

Tussah silk worms live naturally in tropical or semi-tropical forests. Their silk is gathered after the moth emerges. As the caterpillars eat all kinds of different trees, all rich in tannin, the silk is beige to brownish toned. There are many varieties and shades of wild silk. Tussah is generally stronger and more resilient than cultivated "white" silk.

The fibre is sturdier, though not as soft as cultivated silk.
