Passion;  Dedication;  Commitment to the HIGHEST STANDARDS of Ecology and Ethics in this my bitty Art business.

I have survived to be:  YO’ GRAMMA.

And GRAMMA SAYS:

You can’t claim to be an Eco business

When you’re doing the same-old, same-old TOXINS

And LYING about it*.

This is Bad, Unethical and socially Very Un-cool.

And to you, my friend and potential client:

Please support a business that is real, true, 100% ECO, (or we’ll tell you why!)

(Please read:  “THE ECOLOGY OF COLOUR”)

And please, always read the fine print.

If a site has truly “Naturally Dyed” anything, that should be clearly stated.

If what you see is “Organic” dyes, please remember that

“Organic Dyes” is a trademarked term granted to the SYNTHETIC dye industry by the US Patent Office.  It means they don’t contain really awful heavy metals like arsenic, lead, cadmium or mercury.  However they are all made from Coal Tar, the toxic by-product of gasoline production.  They are all intense carcinogens.  They are many straight up poisons.  (And you thought that cutesy web sight meant everything would be safe for your baby to chew on!)

If what you see is “Low Impact” dyes, know this is the same.  All synthetic poisons.  Just more goes into the fabric, less gets rinsed out, and the effluent of the dye plant “looks cleaner”.

If what you see is “Eco Colours” (or Eco Colors) know that this is a term coined by Ceiba – Geigy (one of the most polluting chemical conglomerates on the planet)  to promote their same-old, same-old line of synthetic dyes.  Their, quite legal reasoning is that these dyes do not degrade into two classes of extremely toxic amine chemicals, that are currently banned by the German government.  (They are a German registered company, tho they operate globally.)  Well, they don’t mention the other 98 more or less amines they do degrade into, many just as toxic, but not yet banned.  Incidentally these are the same dyes sold to the art dyer as “Lanacet”, and other brands.  Home dyers who do not use gas masks are assured of an early death to lung cancer.  In the 70’s people were dyeing and Textile Art magazines carried many warnings.  Now?

If what you see is called “Natural Colours” (Natural Colors), you can be sure it is synthetically dyed in “earthy” tones.

DON’T BE FOOLED BECAUSE YOU WISH IT WERE TRUE!

We sell all the dyes we use and they are all 100% NATURAL DYES.
