Naturally Hand Dyed Colours on Uzbeki Organically Grown silk yarn.
These colours are the work of a civilization based on love, art, dedication and hard work! These silks are all hand dyed by Master Natural Dyer Madrim Matkarimov in the ancient walled city of Khiva, Uzbekistan. Most of master Matkarimov's colours become fine handknotted silk carpets and hand embroideries called "Suzani". Along with Madder and Indigo Matkarimov also uses local dyes.
The silk is grown around the city of Urgench in the North-Western reaches of Uzbekistan. The silk worms are tended to by small family farms with traditional customs. They are raised on the leaves from Mulberry trees that are up to 400 years old that line the canal banks. It is then custom prepared to our specifications by a locally owned small family mill.
The yarn is a fine knitting size, also suitable for heavy embroidery.
